https://koreanwarmemorials.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/9_16_thailand__IMG_0942-scaled.jpg25601920포천시에 있는 한국 전쟁 참전 기념비는 태국 장병들을 기리고 있습니다. 한국 전쟁에서 가장 큰 공을 세운 부대 중 하나인 왕립 태국 원정군(Royal Thai Expeditionary Forces)은 1950년 10월 22일부터 1972년 여름까지 용맹하게 임무를 수행한 1만 3000명의 장병들로 구성되어 있었습니다. 태국 장병들은 상대적으로 왜소한 체구에도 불구하고 전쟁에서 보여준 용맹함으로 ‘작은 호랑이(Little Tiger)’라는 별칭을 얻었습니다. 태국군은 제3차 서울 전투(1950년 12월~1951년 1월)와 폭찹힐 전투(Battle of Pork Chop Hill)(1953년 4월~7월)에서 큰 활약을 펼쳤습니다. 전쟁 중에 129명의 태국 장병들이 목숨을 잃었고, 1139명이 부상을 당했으며, 5명이 작전 중 실종되었습니다. 1953년 7월 27일 정전 협정 후 거의 20년 동안 매년 20명의 공군이 자원해서 한국에 남았습니다. 현재에도 15명의 태국 병사들이 삼팔선 인근에서 주둔하고 있습니다.
