The People’s Republic of China participated in the Korean War from October 1950 to July 1953 on the side of North Korea. Mao Zedong sent the People’s Volunteer Army to support the North Korean forces.
In total, China deployed roughly 2.7 million soldiers and saw a total of 1.42 to 1.5 million casualties. The specific number of Chinese killed or wounded in action is unclear. In addition, the exact number of Chinese soldiers missing in action as well as prisoners of war are unknown.
